One
of the primary goals of the Urban Scholars program is to prepare
talented urban students for rigorous programs of study at the collegiate
level. One measure of the effectiveness of the program is the post-secondary
experiences of its graduates.

A 1988 Urban Scholars graduate, Miguel Montesino credits the program with allowing him to become the person he is today. A father at the age of fifteen, he quit school to work at a dry cleaner's, but he knew that he would not be able to provide for his new family if he continued on this course. Though he had a D grade point average, he made the decision to became a serious student. During his junior year of high school, his teachers, recognizing his talent and potential, nominated him for Urban Scholars. Miguel was an active participant during his year at Urban Scholars. |
